Use a custom subdomain for your Order Editing app.
Linking customers to OrderEditing
When you use Order Editing on a paid plan, you have the option to request a custom domain or URL for your Order Editing widget. This means that instead of using the default URL provided by Order Editing (e.g., "orderediting.shopifyapp.com"), you can use a unique domain or subdomain of your own choosing (e.g., "editorders.glossyproducts.com").
This is useful if you are using Shopify to track orders for your store but your store itself is hosted outside of Shopify (like Hydrogen, Next.js, React, etc.). In this case, you may not have access to Shopify's app proxies, which allow you to embed Order Editing's widget directly on your Shopify store.
To use a custom domain or URL with Order Editing, you'll need to create a CNAME record in your domain's DNS settings that points to Order Editing's default URL. This tells the internet that when someone visits your custom domain or URL, they should be directed to Order Editing's widget at the default URL. A subdomain is a domain that is part of a larger domain. For example, if your domain is "glossyproducts.com", a subdomain could be "orderediting.glossyproducts.com". This subdomain can be used to point to a specific section or page of your website or to an external resource, such as Order Editing's widget.
CNAME records are a type of DNS record that allows you to map a subdomain to another domain or subdomain. In this case, we can use a CNAME record to map the subdomain "orderediting.glossyproducts.com" to the domain "orderediting.vercel.com", where Order Editing's widget is hosted.
Here are the steps to add a subdomain to your domain name using CNAME records:
Log in to your domain registrar's website and navigate to the DNS management page for your domain.
Look for an option to add a new record and select "CNAME" as the record type.
In the "Name" field, enter the subdomain you want to create, such as "orderediting".
In the "Value" field, enter "orderediting.vercel.com".
Save the new CNAME record.
Wait for the DNS changes to propagate, which can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.
Once the CNAME record has propagated, the subdomain "orderediting.glossyproducts.com" will point to Order Editing's widget, allowing customers to edit their orders directly from your website.
