What is Post-Purchase Discount Codes?

Post-Purchase Discount Codes allows customers to apply discount codes to their order after checkout if they forgot to enter them initially. This prevents frustration and keeps customers happy.

Customer Experience

When customers select "Apply a discount code" a dropdown menu will appear which allows them to enter any discount code that they may have forgot to enter before checking out.


When to Use Post-Purchase Discount Codes

Best for: Most merchants—especially those running promotions or offering discount codes.

Examples:

  • Customer forgot to apply their welcome discount code, adds it post-purchase

  • Customer realizes they have a loyalty reward code, adds it before editing period ends

Benefits:

  • Reduces order cancellations - Customers don't cancel to reorder with discount

  • Decreases support tickets - Customers apply codes themselves instead of contacting support

  • Improves satisfaction - Customers feel they didn't miss out on savings

Consider disabling if: You don't want customers applying additional discounts post-purchase, or run very limited promotional codes.


Important: App Permissions Required

To enable this feature, you must toggle on "Post-Purchase Upsell Discount" in settings to grant Permission

  1. Navigate to Settings

  2. Locate Post-Purchase Upsell Discount

  3. Toggle ON to allow Order Editing to read discount codes

  4. Click Save

Note: Without this permission enabled, customers won't be able to apply discount codes post-purchase even if this App Block is turned on.


Custom Denial Message

What is the Custom Denial Message?

If a customer tries to apply a discount code that's invalid, expired, or doesn't meet requirements, they'll see a denial message. You can customize this message to match your brand voice.

How to Edit the Denial Message

  1. In App Blocks > Post-Purchase Discount Codes

  2. Locate Provide your own error messages.

  3. Enter your custom text

  4. Example: "Sorry, this code isn't valid for your order. Contact us if you need help!"

  5. Click Save

Tip: Keep the message friendly and helpful. Consider directing customers to support if they have questions.


How to Enable Post-Purchase Discount Codes

  1. First: Enable discount code permissions in Settings > Discount Codes

  2. Navigate to App Blocks > Post-Purchase Discount Codes

  3. Toggle ON

  4. (Optional) Customize your denial message
