Shipping Method

What is Shipping Methods?

Shipping Methods allows customers to change their shipping method after purchase—for example, upgrading from Standard Shipping to Express Shipping. This is useful when customers realize they need their order faster than originally selected.

How It Works

Important restriction: Customers can only upgrade to more expensive shipping methods. They cannot downgrade to cheaper options.

Example:

  • Can change: Standard Shipping ($5) → Express Shipping ($15)

  • Cannot change: Express Shipping ($15) → Standard Shipping ($5)

Customer Experience

When customers select the module, a dropdown menu will appear with their different options configured in Shipping Cost Recalculations

When to Use Shipping Methods

Best for: Stores offering multiple shipping speeds or methods.

Examples:

  • E-commerce store: Customer realizes they need their gift sooner, upgrades to 2-day shipping

  • Fashion retailer: Customer wants expedited delivery for an upcoming event

  • Electronics store: Customer upgrades to signature-required shipping for security

Consider disabling if: You only offer one shipping method, or your 3PL/warehouse system cannot process shipping method changes post-purchase (see Important Notes below).

Restricting Specific Shipping Methods

You can control which shipping methods customers are allowed to switch to using Restricted Delivery Methods.

How to Restrict Shipping Methods

  1. Navigate to App Blocks > Shipping Methods

  2. Locate Restricted Delivery Methods

  3. Select methods to restrict:

  4. Check the boxes for shipping methods you want to exclude from editing

  5. Unchecked methods will be available for customers to switch to

  6. Click Save

Example: If you only want customers to upgrade to Express and Overnight (not International), restrict all other methods.

Important: Shipping Recalculation

We strongly advise keeping "Shipping Cost Recalculation" turned ON in your Settings.

Why This Matters

Shipping Recalculation ensures accurate shipping costs when customers:

  • Change their shipping method

  • Adjust product quantities (affecting weight/size)

  • Update their shipping address

Without this enabled, shipping costs may be incorrect after edits are made.

Where to enable: Settings > Shipping Cost Recalculations

Important: 3PL and Warehouse Systems

Compatibility Check Required

Before enabling Shipping Methods, verify that your 3PL or warehouse system can process shipping method changes post-purchase.

Many 3PLs and ERPs cannot read changes to shipping methods after the initial order is placed. If your system doesn't support this, enabling Shipping Methods could cause fulfillment errors.

How to Check Your System

  1. Navigate to Settings > Integrations

  2. View your connected 3PL, WMS, or ERP system

  3. Check system capabilities or contact your provider to confirm they can process post-purchase shipping method changes

Edit Shipping Method Title on Fulfillment Orders

What is This Setting?

This setting updates the shipping method title on fulfillment orders (not just order shipping lines). This is critical if your warehouse reads from fulfillment orders instead of order data.

When to Enable This

Enable if:

  • Your warehouse or 3PL reads shipping information from fulfillment orders

  • Customers are editing quantities or items in their orders

  • You need to prevent incorrect shipping due to order modifications

Why This Matters

Some warehouses read fulfillment orders instead of the main order's shipping lines. If a customer edits their order (adds/removes items), the fulfillment order needs to reflect the updated shipping method to prevent the warehouse from shipping with the wrong method.

How to Enable

  1. In App Blocks > Shipping Methods

  2. Locate "Edit the shipping method title on fulfillment orders"

  3. Toggle ON

  4. Click Save

How to Enable Shipping Methods

  1. First: Verify your 3PL/warehouse system supports post-purchase shipping changes (see above)

  2. Second: Ensure Shipping Recalculation is enabled in Settings

  3. Navigate to App Blocks > Shipping Methods

  4. Toggle ON

  5. Configure Restricted Delivery Methods if needed

  6. Enable "Edit the shipping method title on fulfillment orders" if using a 3PL/WMS
