Unlike Primary Upsell carousel, "This Goes With That" can be:

This gives you complete creative control over how upsells appear.

***

### Important: Cannot Be Used With Primary Upsell

"This Goes With That" Upsell Offer replaces the [Primary Upsell carousel.](/oe-help-book/self-service-edits/app-blocks/primary-upsell.md) These two features cannot be used together—you must choose one or the other.

Choose "This Goes With That" if:

* You prefer flexibility over preset layouts

Choose Primary Upsell if:

### Best Practice: Adjust Block Size

#### Default Size Issue

The upsell block loads at a very large size by default, which can overwhelm the page and look disproportionate.

#### Recommended Solution

Reduce the block size using aspect ratio settings:

1. Select the upsell block in your checkout customization
2. Locate Aspect Ratio settings
3. Change to 3:1 ratio (or similar)
4. This creates a wider, shorter display that fits better on the page
5. Test different ratios to find what works best for your design

Alternative ratios to try:

* 3:1 - Wide and compact (recommended starting point)
* 4:1 - Even wider, very compact
* 2:1 - Balanced width and height

### Configuration Examples

#### Simple Example: Broad Appeal

Goal: Show recently viewed products to all customers

Setup:

* Rule: None
* Applies to all orders
* Product Module: Recently Viewed Products
* Shows items customer has browsed
* Strategy Discount: 20%

Result: All customers see products they recently viewed with 20% discount, placed exactly where you want on the page with custom sizing.

***

#### Advanced Example: High-Value Targeted Offer

Goal: Upsell premium accessories to high-value surfboard buyers

Setup:

* Rule 1: Product Type equals "Surfboard"
* Rule 2: Order Total is greater than $200
* Targets only premium surfboard purchases
* Product Module: A Group of Products - Various surf waxes
* Manually curated selection of wax products
* Strategy Discount: 50%
* High discount for high-value customers

**Result:** Customers who just spent $200+ on a surfboard see premium surf wax options at 50% off—a generous offer for valuable customers.

**Why this works:** Rewards big spenders with premium discounts on relevant accessories.

### Step-by-Step: Creating Your Strategy

#### 1. Set Your Rules (Triggers)

Define when the upsell appears

**Common rules:**

* Order value thresholds - "Order total is greater than $X"
* Product in cart - "Product type equals \[category]"
* Product NOT in cart - Show complementary items customer didn't buy
* Collections - Target specific product groups
* Combine multiple rules - Create highly specific targeting

#### 2. Choose Product Module

Select which products to display

**Example options:**

* Recently Viewed Products - Leverages proven interest
* Related Products - Automatic complementary suggestions
* Single Product - One specific item
* Group of Products - Curated selection you choose manually
* Product Collection - Items from a specific collection

#### 3. Set Strategy Discount

Enter discount percentage

**Example options:**

* 10-25% for broad strategies
* 30-50% for targeted, high-value customer strategies
* 0% for generic strategies

#### 4. Customize Block Display

After adding blocks to Thank You and Order Status pages:

Size and Layout:

* Adjust aspect ratio (recommend 3:1)

#### 5. Test and Refine

Place test orders to see how the upsell appears and make adjustments to sizing, placement, and styling.

### Best Practices

#### Design and Sizing:

* Always adjust default size - Start with 3:1 aspect ratio to avoid overwhelming the page
* Test on mobile - Ensure sizing works on all devices
* Keep it visible but not intrusive - Should enhance, not distract from order confirmation

#### Product Selection:

* Show 1-4 products maximum - Avoid overwhelming customers
* Prioritize relevance - Use rules to show highly relevant products
* Consider order value - Higher order values can support higher upsell discounts
* Use recently viewed for broad appeal - Works well when you can't predict customer interests

#### Strategy:

* Create multiple strategies - Different rules for different customer segments
* Test discount levels - Find balance between conversion and profitability
* Monitor performance - Track which strategies convert best and optimize
