# Free Shipping Upsell

#### What is One-Click Free Shipping Upsell?

One-Click Free Shipping Upsell is the highest-converting upsell feature in Order Editing, with a 1 in 5 conversion rate. It encourages customers to add products to their order to reach your free shipping threshold, strategically placed where customers select their shipping method.

#### Why This Works

This upsell taps into natural consumer behavior: customers prefer spending a little more to get an extra product rather than paying for shipping.

**Customer perspective:**

* Option A: Pay $8 for shipping, receive nothing extra
* Option B: Add a $10 product, get free shipping, receive something valuable

Most customers choose Option B—they'd rather spend money on a product than on shipping.

**Important note: One Click Free Shipping Upsell can only be used by Shopify Plus stores due to Shopify's own limitations preventing other stores from being able to edit their checkout.**

### How One-Click Free Shipping Upsell Works

#### Primary Function

The upsell brings customers' order value up to meet your free shipping threshold by suggesting products that bridge the gap.

**Example:**

* Free shipping threshold: $50
* Customer's order: $42
* Upsell shows products around $8-15 to help them reach $50

#### Strategic Placement

The upsell appears directly where customers select their shipping method during checkout or order editing. This placement is critical as it catches customers at the exact moment they're evaluating shipping costs. *However, you can choose to place this elsewhere if you wish.*

### Setting Up One-Click Free Shipping Upsell

#### Prerequisites

Before setting up this upsell, ensure [Shipping Cost Recalculation](/oe-help-book/onboard/getting-started-with-order-editing/start-finish-onboard-guide/settings-configuration/shipping-cost-recalculations.md) is configured

1. Free Shipping Recalculations enabled - Must be ON in Order Editing Settings
2. Free shipping threshold configured - Set up in Shopify or your 3PL system

#### Step 1: Create the Upsell Strategy

1. Navigate to Upsell Strategy Settings in your Order Editing dashboard
2. Click Create New Strategy
3. Select One-Click Free Shipping as the strategy type
4. Verify Free Shipping Source
5. Confirm it aligns with your settings (Shopify) otherwise manually enter a threshold to align with a third-party system.

#### Step 2: Configure Product Selection

You have various options to choose which products appear in the free shipping upsell:

#### Option 1: Always Show a Product (Recommended)

**This intelligent option:**

* Calculates the gap to free shipping threshold
* Shows products that help customers reach the threshold
* Prioritizes recently viewed products to increase relevance
* Automatically selects appropriate items based on customer behavior

**Why this works best:** It's dynamic, personalized, and always relevant to the customer's situation.

#### Option 2: Only Show Selected Products

Manually choose specific products to display:

* You select which product(s) appear in the upsell
* Same products show to all customers
* Good for promoting specific items

Best for: Pushing particular products or promotions

#### How to Set This:

1. In your One-Click Free Shipping strategy settings
2. Locate Free Shipping Product Selection
3. Choose:

* Always show a product (recommended), OR
* Only show selected products and manually select items

1. Click Save

#### Step 3: Configure Free Shipping Source

#### Option A: Free Shipping Set Up in Shopify

If you've configured your free shipping threshold in Shopify's shipping settings, Order Editing will automatically sync with it.

#### Option B: Free Shipping Set Up in External System (3PL)

If your free shipping rules are managed by your 3PL or external system (not Shopify), you'll need to manually enter the threshold in Order Editing.

What to do:

1. Manually enter your free shipping threshold
2. Example: Enter "$50" if free shipping applies to orders $50+
3. This acts as a visual threshold for customers
4. Your 3PL will still grant free shipping when the threshold is reached on their end
5. Click Save

#### Step 4: Install Checkout Free Shipping Block

Now you need to add the upsell block to your checkout interface.

#### Installation Steps:

1. Navigate to Checkout Surfaces or your Shopify checkout customization area
2. Click Add Block or Import Block
3. Select “Free Shipping Upsell" from Order Editing
4. The block will be added to your available blocks

### Step 5: Add Block to Checkout Page

1. Go to Shopify Settings > Checkout
2. Click Customize (for your active checkout configuration)
3. Navigate to the Checkout page

#### Default Behavior

1. Go to Checkout Settings for the Free Shipping Upsell block
2. Locate Extension
3. Change Location from "ALL" to "Cheapest"
4. Click Save
