Adding out-of-stock items to cart

Conditionally allow product options to be switched if there is enough quantity to fulfill the order.

How it works

When a customer wants to order a product on your Shopify store, the inventory for that product is automatically checked to ensure that enough quantity is available to fulfill the order. However, with Order Editing, customers can add more quantities of a product to their order even if it surpasses the total amount of inventory available at the product's locations if you enable the feature in your Order Editing app settings.

This means that customers can place an order for a larger quantity of a product than what is currently in stock. For example, if you only have 10 units of a product available in your inventory, a customer could use Order Editing to add 15 units of that product to their order.

It is important to note that Order Editing will not prevent customers from placing an order for more than the available inventory, but it is still important to monitor your inventory levels and restock as needed to avoid overselling. Additionally, if you have enabled backorders, customers can still place orders for out-of-stock items and you can fulfill those orders when the items are restocked.
