Fraud prevention

What is Fraud Prevention?

Fraud Prevention enables Order Editing to run additional fraud checks at the end of the editing period, protecting you from fraudulent activity that occurs during post-purchase edits.

How It Works

Shopify's fraud protection: Shopify automatically runs fraud checks at initial checkout.

Order Editing's fraud protection: When enabled, Order Editing performs a second fraud check after the editing period ends, specifically looking for suspicious post-purchase activity. We do this by re-running Shopify's original fraud check.

What we check for:

  • Suspicious address changes (e.g., changing to a known fraudulent address)

  • Multiple card transactions

  • Other fraudulent patterns during the editing window

What Happens If Fraud Is Detected?

If post-purchase activity is flagged as fraudulent and the order is still in authorised status (payment not yet captured):

  1. The post-purchase edited changes are automatically reversed

  2. An instant refund of any post-purchase upsells is issued to the customer

  3. The order is placed on hold

  4. You're protected from fulfilling a fraudulent order

Why Enable This Setting?

Added protection: Fraudsters may use the editing window to change delivery details after passing initial checkout fraud checks. This setting catches those attempts.

No extra work: Fraud detection and order cancellation happen automatically—no manual review needed.

Peace of mind: Double-layer fraud protection for both checkout and post-purchase activity.

How to Enable Fraud Prevention

  1. Navigate to Settings > Fraud Prevention

  2. Toggle "Enable Fraud Prevention" to ON

  3. Click Save

Note: This setting must be manually enabled. It is not turned on by default
